Sterna BPS can be deployed either on customer premises, or as an on demand BI service, on a hosted environment managed by Sterna Technologies.
Software as a service (SaaS) and on demand BI is growing to be a very popular approach to software implementation, deployment and maintenance. By 2011, Gartner projects, 25 percent of new business software will be delivered by means of SaaS. The familiar benefits of the SaaS and on demand BI approach are rapid deployment, lower up-front and maintenance costs, web access, and pay-as-you-go convenience. Implementation in a non-SaaS approach typically involves extensive utilization of IT staff, and purchase and maintenance of the appropriate IT infrastructure.
Sterna BPS is SaaS-compliant by design. Its system architecture is comprised of an AJAX-based, thin client that requires no local installations, which accesses the hosted Sterna BPS server via secured communications. Working on an in-memory platform, Sterna BPS server avoids the burdens of retrieving, aggregating, and presenting data using conventional disk-based storage. These burdens are, among others, what cause implementations of OLAP tools and Data Warehouses to be time-consuming, expensive and inflexible. In contrast, Sterna BPS compresses and transforms raw data to a hosted virtual data store, and due to its in-memory architecture, no data replication or persistency is performed, ensuring that customers’ data security is not compromised and allowing easy on demand BI implementation.
Sterna Technologies provides prepackaged business analytics libraries, which are based on industry best practices, enabling the implementation of a hosted on demand BI analytics application within days, providing an exceptional time-to-value. Complete flexibility to custom build a hosted solution is also provided; this too is very rapid, taking only weeks for typical implementations. Customers may choose to start with a hosted on demand BI implementation, in order to prove value, adding users as needed with no hassles and no over-investment. As value is proven, customers may choose to move from this on demand BI implementation to an on-premise, larger deployment.
